Province Seeks Proposals for Future Development of Buchans Generating Facility
The provincial government has issued an expression of interest for the potential sale and future development of the Buchans Generating Facility. The proposals could identify future uses for the site, which may create later work for construction and industrial trades in the region.
The Provincial Government has issued a public expression of interest for the potential divestment and future development of the Buchans Generating Facility.
This expression of interest invites interested parties to bring forward proposals outlining potential uses for the facility, anticipated economic benefits and plans for its long-term operation and development.
As a publicly owned asset, any potential divestment must be considered through a fair, transparent and competitive process. The expression of interest will allow the Provincial Government to assess the market, compare potential proposals and determine the approach that offers the greatest overall benefit to Newfoundland and Labrador.
This process will provide an opportunity to identify proposals that support regional economic development, Indigenous participation, employment, investment and the productive use of existing infrastructure.
Further information regarding the expression of interest, including submission requirements and timelines, can be found on the MERX tendering platform or found here . The deadline for submissions is October 20, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
