We link to other people’s journalism. This page says exactly which publishers we read, what each one lets us do with their work, and how to have something removed.
A story on BuildNL project news is the publisher’s headline, the publisher’s name and date, a link straight to their page, and — where their licence allows it — a summary written by us plus one quoted excerpt of at most 200 characters, shown in quotation marks.
We only carry a story’s full text where the publisher’s own terms permit republication. Today that is the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, whose site terms grant the public permission to use government-owned content; its news releases run here in full, taken from its feed and credited. For every other publisher we never store or serve the article body.
We do not copy, cache, resize or re-host anyone’s photographs. We do not frame, proxy, mirror, reader-mode or paywall-bypass another site. Every link opens the publisher’s own page.
Where a publisher’s terms or machine-readable licence says we may not summarise their reporting, the story here carries the headline and the link only — and the item is never sent to an AI model at all. That rule is enforced in our ingestion code, not just in the page design.
BuildNLBot/1.0 (+https://buildnl.ca/bot; contact@buildnl.ca) and never disguises itself to get past a block.robots.txt, including Crawl-delay, and any machine-readable licence a publisher advertises.If-None-Match and If-Modified-Since so an unchanged feed costs the publisher a few bytes, and it backs off when a server answers 429 or 503.Email hello@buildnl.ca with the link. We remove it within 24–48 hours, no argument and no debate about fair dealing, and we will turn the whole source off on request. If you would rather change the arrangement than end it, we are happy to carry headline-and-link only, or to talk about a licence.

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Public news releases: tenders, funding awards, hospital/school/road announcements. The province’s terms (gov.nl.ca/disclaimer, checked 2026-09-15) grant the public permission to use government-owned site content, so releases run in full from the feed. Its photographs do not: "Reproduction of such materials is not permitted."
The publisher permits republication. We carry the full text exactly as it appears in their own feed, credited and linked to the original. Photographs are left out unless the permission covers them too. Their terms. Last read Sep 15, 2026.

Postmedia publishes a machine-readable RSL 1.0 licence that denies republication and prices AI retrieval (generative summaries). We carry headline, source, date and link only. Their feed ships the full article body in content:encoded — we strip that field before parsing so it can never be stored.

CBC's terms require a written agreement for commercial use of its feeds, so we carry headline, source, date and link only — no excerpt, and nothing is sent to an AI model. A commercial RSS licence can be requested at cbc.ca/rss/commercial. Note their edge currently refuses our self-identifying bot User-Agent; we do not disguise it to get around that.
