Planned · Wabush
An iron ore mine southwest of Wabush — feasibility study due end of 2026, then a 48-month build if it is sanctioned.
What’s being built
Champion Iron, with Nippon Steel and Sojitz as partners, is advancing the Kami iron ore project about 10 kilometres southwest of Wabush. Partners have put in C$245 million so far. The definitive feasibility study is due at the end of 2026 and no investment decision has been taken, so the capital cost is still pending. If sanctioned, construction runs about 48 months, and it depends partly on the Labrador West transmission line being built.
Workforce
A 48-month build if sanctioned — but no investment decision has been taken.
