Converting the old Western Memorial hospital into a community health centre with 45 more long-term care beds.
What’s being built
The new Western Memorial Regional Hospital opened in June 2024; this project is the conversion of the old hospital building into a community health centre, adding 45 long-term care beds. The first units opened in the fall of 2025 and Budget 2026 funded the next phase at $21 million, running in stages through 2026 to 2028. Renovation of an occupied building is abatement, interior demolition, drywall, electrical upgrades and mechanical — steady inside work through the winter.
Workforce
Phased renovation work — reliable interior trades hours through the winter months.
